You'll just have to take my word for it that the wig and the pants are super awesome bright teal. Mine is a bad bathroom photo and the wig is a celphone photo. XD Char, my love, is making me the wig. Doesn't it look insane? I'm going to slobber all over it when it arrives. I decided to go with teal for Saionji's wig because Cosworx teal is THAT GORGEOUS. (and there are a couple cannon images where his hair is teal. so? SO?)

I still have to put the shoulderpads in, do the cuffs and epaulets, etc... and hem my pants.

YEAY CHERRY BLOSSOM MONONOKE!
well, so I really meant to finish my Euphie costume (again) but wasn't even close. (those scallops. I hate them.) So instead I wore my Apothecary costume from Mononoke on one day, my lolita Twinkle Mermaid on another day, and then furisode on the last day. And actually,... all that turned out great!

Here's the first shots from this weekend of the Medicine Seller )

The Medicine Seller

I've been working on my Mononoke Apothecary outfit... It's from the Mononoke series (not Princess Mononoke!)

I haven't used Heat N Bond in a while... I think it was stiffer than I wanted. I might have to redo the sleeve... It's my first time doing satinstitching, too. (which is rather lame of me...) my old machine really sucked at it though. I still want to make his knife and medicine cabinet. I think the overall look when I'm done though will be really fun.

welcome, year of the rat!
First costume of the year, Ayame!
I've been meaning to do this costume for a while. AJ got me hooked on Fruits Basket. I really love the series, it's so uplifting to me. There are lots of awesome things for me about this costume.

1. it's made out of the red velvet that I've had sitting around since 1998 (when ever after came out I wanted to make the red dress). (OMG! it only took me TEN YEARS TO USE IT!!!! WHAT?!) The white is also from an aborted costume.
2. I already had the blank wig too (it's a slightly styled Ivy from Cosworx)
2.b. Char's bangs curling/trimming technique NEVER FAILS. a few quick cuts, put the curlers in, a little hairspray, one pass of the hair dryer and VIOLA! nice loose natural curl instead of bangs of death (Just look at those aweful bangs before I used Char's method!!) Also, these very curlers are the ones Char mailed me. I always feel the love when I use them.
3. Ayame is love
4. It is the year of the rat, so there better be lots of rats around for me to give sars to.
5. wasn't too hard to make this costume, which is good because I'm tiiiiired.
6. guilty pleasure of watching America's Top Model marathons while making (somehow fitting??)
7. you know Ayame totally puts his hair in curlers at night. :P :)

Behind-the-scenes with FSS & Ed Pingol Photography
Yesterday AJ, Judy and I had a shoot with Ed Pingol, a Vallejo-based photographer who mostly does wedding/engagement work. I found his business card at a boba spot in Vallejo and, after checking out his website, asked him if he'd be interested in shooting a bunch of goobers in ridiculous headgear. Since it was totally different than his usual fare, he agreed and we met up on Mare Island in Vallejo, a Naval base that closed in the early 90s.

[info]ziggybecket, [info]kitkat_nap and Marcus were our tireless handlers and [info]ziggybecket took some behind-the-scenes shots while we were shooting.

More photos on Zig's Flickr!

We should be getting preview shots from Ed by the end of the week followed by a CD of all our photos in about a month, so expect more FSS photo-spam soon! We loved working with Ed and, from the quick looks from his camera display we got, we should have some pretty amazing stuff!

Forgot to mention that for being a relatively obscure location, we had a ton of drive-by's where people either got into near-accidents staring at us, stopped completely in their tracks, or did complete u-turns to check us out. We should start charging. ;D

sadly due to being way way too busy, Char and I didn't get our Code Geass costumes done. (not even close for me. which is rather pathetic. haha.) oh well! :) We'll do them soon!

Right now I'm rushing to try to finish my Kanna costume. did you know Kanna is 197cm tall? I'm only 182 cm (6 ft) tall.
....haha... even with 5 inch heels I will still be shorter than the real Kanna. (how's that for a change?) I guess no one can complain about be being too tall to cosplay this character!
Also, it's nice, I had some red, gold and black pleather left over in my garage... (and Char has the jacket fabric leftover) it's so great to get to use up some fabrics instead of perpetually hoarding them.

I'm also really looking forward to cosplaying Lovely Complex with Cheryll. XD
ooooootaniiiii!

random costuming updates.
Char and I are starting our Code Geass costumes soon!

We will be doing Cornelia and Euphemia... princesses from Britannia Empire. (I'll be the pink one, Euphie.)Cornelia is a general. :) The two characters are loving sisters, I'm really looking forward to cosplaying this with Char!

My next, next costume will be using these fabrics below (mostly scavanged from my fabric bins), but I won't say what it is till I'm done with Euphie to try to keep myself motivated with her.

Updates to previous/recent costuming stuff:
You can see pictures of my husband and my Spartan 300 costumes here. Also, I have photos of my finished Belle and Gaston outfits here and here.

a couple favorites from Belle are: 1, 2, 3.

And I know there are people out there crying tears of blood over how ghetto this is.

Please let us know if anything is unclear. It's hard to explain stuff sometimes, especially if you're already familiar with the process. (I already caught a typo that I can't fix until I get home tonight. Ugh.)

Also, [info]tristencitrine posted a new wig tutorial on her site that is linked on the Tutorials page.

We have a 2-part rtv mold tutorial going up next. I might even stop playing WoW long enough to get it up this weekend. =D

Belle Progress
YEAY! Almost done!

I'm really happy with how my wig turned out, it didn't take much work to look similar to the musical version, which was what I was going for. (I got the idea to add some details from the broadway musical, which I loved. The exact details though I let myself do whichever way.)
I still have to put button-loops on the sleeve-cuffs.
(ignore the half-awake face. haha)

Belle Progress

I can't say how giddy I am about finally doing this costume. When I tried it on this morning it was like the culmination of some quest. I worked on it yesterday while I was sick.

I still have to put the laces on the front of the bodice and do all the buttons on the blouse. Also I need to finish the apron and the skirt. :)

also, this is silly, but I'd been saving lace for like 3 years from my trip to Okadaya in Japan. I decided to finally use some of the lace on this outfit, because of my love for this movie. :) The apron or the skirt will have some rose lace that I bought in Tokyo, and the cuffs of the sleeves are already using a small amount of the pretty scallop I bought there too.

I'm going to try to finish Belle before this weekend... and then next week I really need to get cracking on Mitch's Gaston outfit (which won't be as hard... knock on wood...)

I can't wait to wear these! :) I also watched BATB for the first time in years while I was working on it. haha...

isn't buying fabric the most fun part?
The first is 300 (click for cape fabric and spartan lady fabric)... Man, I really need to stop eating croisants. lol. I wish the 300 fabric was more nubbly but after going back and forth in the fabric district until they closed, THIS WILL HAVE TO DO. seriously. ugh. It's linen, btw. Can't wait to battle-damage it.

and the second is this one! (click for fabric) The red is for Mitch's Gaston costume (I'm so happy I found it. haha. It's going to be great)... and the blues and whites are for my Belle peasant dress :)

Here's the little bit of embroidery I did for Belle. :)
